what: annual report + faculty retreat video presentation
for: The Design School, Arizona State University

Each year, The Design School hosts an end of year Faculty Retreat where we discuss outstanding business, vote on next year’s service appointments, and recognize the incredible work our faculty and staff have accomplished over the previous ten months. In 2020, we hosted this remotely as Arizona State University had shifted to remote working, and Arizona was on lockdown due to global health concerns.

To help lighten the mood, then director Jason Schupbach requested an annual review video, celebrating our accomplishments within the overly challenging year we’d just concluded.

Using an upbeat instrumental song and content collected by our amazing staff, the video used the ever-driving beat of the soundtrack to mimic the near-frantic pace we’d all experienced. And following the natural ups and downs of the tempo, an overall narrative emerged—while this year saw change in both good and oppressive terms, it also saw us adapt into something worth celebrating.
